As seen in the February, 2006 issue of the American Quarter Horse Journal

This street painting was produced as a live event to promote an art gallery opening in Kissimmee, FL in November of 2005. The photograph was generously supplied by the foal's owner, Jeannie Reeves, who stands Kids Genuine Ransom (view site). A big thank you goes to her, as well as all the other foal owners who submitted photos for consideration. This little guy is about 5 feet wide and 3 feet tall, roughly life-sized.

You can see the photo I am working from. Here I've been working for maybe an hour, preparing the sidewalk, laying down the shape of the foal - a crucial step - and chalking in his head. At this point it's still nice and cool and very quiet. He's such a cutie! I can already tell this is going to be a fun day.

Here I've been working for maybe another hour, chalking in the front legs, neck, and upper body. You can see I'm having to really pick through my chalks to get any useful colors. People are starting to take a real interest in this little guy, and are coming back repeatedly to see my progress.

Here you can see the little guy start to take on a 3-D effect. At this point it is sweltering in front of the art gallery; it may be November but this is Florida! The afternoon sun is beating down full-force but I am so close to finishing and the crowd hangs around me in anticipation.

Here's the finished chalk drawing. Is he the coolest or what? This little guy unexpectedly made it into the American Quarter Horse Journal!
